Nonprofit healthcare system Indiana University Health (IU Health; Indianapolis) is planning a new $1.6 billion hospital and expanded medical campus in downtown Indianapolis, according to an article in Fox 59.
The new hospital will serve as the core of the 44-acre campus, south of the existing IU Health Methodist Hospital campus, and will be built over the next six years; it’s expected to open in 2026. Operations of IU Health Methodist and IU Health University Hospital will be consolidated to the new facility and the existing Methodist Hospital complex will be renovated to be integrated into the expanded campus.
The $1.6 billion project will add three glass-fronted towers, with up to 576 private patient beds and multiple outpatient care areas, and a rooftop helipad. The new buildings will connect to the existing campus and parking garage via enclosed walkways. Also planned on the campus are research and education facilities for the IU School of Medicine to house its physicians, faculty, students, and scientists.
