PHOTO TOUR: Cedars-Sinai Ventana Cancer Care Clinic

The Cedars-Sinai Ventana Cancer Care Clinic in Tarzana, Calif., brings oncology services into the heart of the Los Angeles suburb. The community-based location relieves the strain of patients commuting to Cedars-Sinai’s main campus in Beverly Hills and the frequently traffic-congested area for ongoing cancer treatment, saving time and minimizing stress.

As a tenant improvement project, the shape of the existing floor plate and the client’s need for an uplifting, light-filled space, presented design challenges. The ZGF (Los Angeles) team provided a solution that prioritized the layout by space type. This led to placing one large infusion room in a window-wrapped area, which drove the layout of the rest of the spaces.

By placing the reception and main waiting area adjacent to the infusion room, partitioned only by frosted glass, daylight streams through to the center to create a sense of natural light in a large, windowless area.

The custom infusion bays, modeled after first-class airplane seating, are grouped in radiating configurations. The soft glow from accent lamps at each bay adds to the cozy upscale hospitality feel, resulting in a layout that affords privacy without losing the sense of togetherness—accommodating patients who prefer solitude, while allowing patients wishing to socialize to be seated in proximity to one another.
